JAPANESE ART GREETING CARD - CRANE COLLECTION | NBC

A graceful collection of Japanese greeting cards inspired by the crane — a timeless symbol of longevity, happiness and good fortune in Japan.

Richly illustrated with blossoms, Mount Fuji and traditional Kyoto imagery, each design turns a simple message into a distinctly Japanese gesture of celebration and goodwill.

Description

The crane, or tsuru (鶴), is one of the most enduring auspicious motifs in Japanese art. Associated with longevity, happiness and good fortune, cranes have traditionally appeared on objects and imagery created for celebrations and important moments in life.

This collection brings that symbolism into a series of richly decorated greeting cards.

Across the five designs, cranes appear among sakura blossoms, golden light, Mount Fuji and traditional Japanese scenery. Gold-toned details and layered patterns give several of the cards an almost decorative-art quality, making them feel considerably more special than an everyday printed greeting card.

One design extends the collection beyond the crane itself, depicting two women in kimono against the Golden Pavilion of Kyoto, introducing another immediately recognisable expression of traditional Japanese beauty.

As with the previous Mount Fuji collection, the cards are designed to be flexible rather than limited to a single occasion. Each includes two inner papers: one carrying a seasonal New Year message and another left blank for a personal message, together with a matching envelope.

They can therefore be used for New Year, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, congratulations, thank-you messages or simply as a thoughtful Japanese gift.

Five Designs

Cranes & Spring Blossoms
Three cranes move through a richly layered composition of pale blue, deep indigo, cherry blossom and delicate gold detailing. Elegant and intricate, this is perhaps the most decorative design of the collection.

Cranes at Sunrise
Three white cranes fly across a brilliant red and gold sky, surrounded by scattered golden accents and traditional wave-like patterns. The combination of cranes, red and gold gives this design an especially celebratory and auspicious character.

Cranes over Fuji & Pagoda
A vivid Japanese landscape combining flying cranes, Mount Fuji, cherry blossom and a traditional pagoda. It brings several instantly recognisable Japanese motifs together in one composition and has the strongest sense of place in the collection.

Cranes among Sakura
Three cranes rise through a field of cherry blossoms against soft blue and violet tones. More delicate than the red-and-gold design, it balances the symbolic strength of the crane with the fleeting beauty of sakura.

Kyoto Elegance
Two women in richly patterned kimono are pictured before Kyoto's Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji). Although this design moves away from the crane motif, it fits naturally into the collection through its emphasis on traditional Japanese elegance and celebration.

A richly illustrated collection that brings together some of Japan's most enduring symbols of beauty and good fortune, transforming the traditional greeting card into a small and meaningful Japanese gift.
