From samurai armour and ninja to sumo wrestlers and Japan’s great castles, this collection turns some of Japan’s most recognisable historical icons into finely detailed stickers.

Made in Japan from paper with delicate gold-leaf accents, each design draws on a real part of Japanese history rather than simply borrowing a Japanese aesthetic.

Description

This is one of the most distinctly Japanese sticker collections selected by Kumohana.

At first glance, the sheets are colourful illustrations of warriors, castles and figures from old Japan. Look more closely, however, and many of them are surprisingly specific.

The samurai armour designs depict armour associated with named historical warlords, rather than imaginary suits of armour. The castle sheet similarly represents specific Japanese castles, while other designs explore the Shinsengumi, ninja and sumo — each representing a different part of Japan’s martial and cultural history.

Printed on paper with a refined texture and finished with gold-leaf detailing, the stickers have a richer, more traditional appearance than conventional glossy decorative stickers. Small metallic highlights pick out details in armour, clothing and architecture, giving the illustrations a particularly attractive finish under changing light.

Made in Japan, they work beautifully for journals, notebooks, correspondence and craft projects, but they are equally appealing as a small collectible for anyone interested in Japanese history.

9 黒田官兵衛 Kuroda Kanbei A brilliant strategist who served Toyotomi Hideyoshi and became one of the most celebrated military minds of the Sengoku era.

Shinsengumi

Ninja
A playful depiction of ninja in motion, accompanied by shuriken throwing stars. Black-clad figures are joined by occasional blue and orange characters, giving the sheet a more animated and graphic character.

Japanese Castles
A miniature tour through some of Japan’s most celebrated surviving and reconstructed castles. Featured castles:
- Inuyama Castle
- Nagoya Castle
- Odawara Castle
- Hirosaki Castle
- Matsumoto Castle
- Himeji Castle

Sumo Wrestlers
Ten sumo wrestlers dressed in individually patterned mawashi, celebrating one of Japan’s most distinctive sporting traditions. The repeated standing pose allows the differences in colour and textile pattern to become the visual focus.
