MIKI YUSEKI 2027 MINI ART CALENDAR - JAPANESE LIFE & SEASONS
MIKI YUSEKI 2027 MINI ART CALENDAR - JAPANESE LIFE & SEASONS
£14.00A small calendar filled with a year of gentle Japanese moments.
Featuring the playful calligraphy and watercolour illustrations of Japanese artist Miki Yuseki (御木幽石), these compact 2027 calendars bring his warm observations of everyday life into a small corner of your home.
Description
Part calendar, part miniature collection of Japanese art, this compact wall calendar presents the distinctive world of Miki Yuseki across the year.
His softly painted little figures appear among seasonal flowers, familiar Japanese motifs, food and everyday scenes, accompanied by expressive handwritten phrases that often carry a simple message of gratitude, happiness or encouragement.
Unlike a conventional calendar designed mainly for planning, the compact format gives much of the page to the artwork itself. Each month becomes a small changing picture for the wall — something to enjoy as the seasons pass.
Two formats are available, each showing a different side of Miki Yuseki’s work.
Portrait — Four Seasons
This edition follows the rhythm of spring, summer, autumn and winter, with scenes of cherry blossom, lotus flowers, autumn leaves and snow.
The cover artwork is particularly good: four small windows depict the four seasons, accompanied simply by:
春夏秋冬 — Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter
This is the quieter and more traditionally Japanese of the two designs.
Landscape — Lucky Days
This edition has a more playful character, featuring lucky motifs, Daruma, animals, seasonal scenes and humorous everyday observations.
One January illustration, for example, reads:
みんな毎日毎日 精一杯 頑張ってる
あなたの ありがとうが 一番嬉しい
A natural English rendering would be:
“Everyone is doing their best, day after day.
Your ‘thank you’ may be the happiest thing they hear.”
That captures something I think is important about Miki Yuseki: his work is not really “Zen quotations”. It is much more ordinary, affectionate and human.
Summary
A small calendar with far more personality than its size suggests.
Combining Miki Yuseki’s handwritten words, gentle characters and scenes from everyday Japanese life, each month offers a new little artwork to discover.
Less a planner for the wall, more a changing piece of Japanese art for every month of the year.
