MIKI YUSEKI JAPANESE ART POSTCARDS | WORDS OF GRATITUDE & HAPPINESS

A small piece of Japanese art, carrying a few words worth giving to someone.

Designed by Japanese calligrapher and artist Miki Yuseki (御木幽石), these postcards bring together expressive brush lettering, gentle watercolour and his distinctive little Jizō figures.

Each design carries its own message — of gratitude, companionship, happiness and the value of simply having someone in your life.

Description

Miki Yuseki’s work has a particularly gentle way of combining Japanese calligraphy with illustration.

Rather than treating words and pictures as separate elements, handwritten phrases become part of the composition itself. His small Jizō figures appear among cherry blossom, hydrangeas, clover and colourful seasonal flowers, giving each piece an immediately recognisable warmth and playfulness.

Yet behind the cheerful illustrations are often remarkably simple thoughts:

Thank you.
You are precious.
I am glad you are here.
Treasure the people you meet.

This combination of simplicity and sentiment is what makes these postcards interesting to us.

They can certainly be written and posted as traditional postcards, but we see them equally as small pieces of Japanese artwork to give, frame or keep.

Summary

More than a postcard, each design combines Japanese calligraphy, gentle illustration and a small message worth sharing.

We selected this collection because it turns an inexpensive everyday object into something unexpectedly personal. The value lies not in the postcard format itself, but in the relationship between the artist’s words, brushwork and imagery.

Whether sent to someone, slipped inside a gift, framed on a desk or simply kept, each piece offers a small and distinctly Japanese expression of gratitude, affection and everyday happiness.
